@delzennejc @Nowooski I honestly really miss smartphones with physical keyboards. I remember my typing speed 10y ago with a physical keyboard phone being significantly higher than what I can accomplish today.
Regular reminder to people trying to make things better:
It is not your responsibility to solve every problem.
@Nowooski Eh, I do think "designers keep trying to force touchscreens on us claiming they are 'sleek' but in reality physical buttons are sooo much better" is a pretty important and timeless UX principle. I've felt that frustration myself many times.
@ESYudkowsky I think lots of people 'know' that "their city runs on suffering", it's just that their picture of "runs on suffering" is "hires immigrants and pays them lower wages than we would like"

@Noahpinion Individual miners can refuse to include whatever they want, but it has little effect; the transaction just gets into the next block.
Need a 51% attack (so, reverting blocks and not just excluding txs) to fully prevent txs from being included.

@phildaian agreed, but with caveats (eg. the internet also has a tendency to forget that non-Americans exist, and while the reach of the US is large it's also not infinite)
@phildaian Two fallacies of security:
1. 100% security is possible
2. 100% security is necessary
It's all a benefits and costs and probabilities game.
@TMKehrenberg @gwern @robertwiblin @tylercowen Oh I meant within a single Everett branch
@gwern @robertwiblin @tylercowen I'd argue that from a moral perspective, N copies of the same agent implemented in N different places (whether virtually or physically) living exactly the same life only count as one agent.
@NathanpmYoung @aveek18 @bryan_caplan @bryan_caplan's previous book themes have the feeling of rising above or at least avoiding the partisan binary, this one feels more like extremely head-on taking a side on it. It's not "tugging sideways" https://www.overcomingbias.com...
I suspect this is where the discomfort comes from.
@blockchainhippy @ChrisLundkvist @Velib Shareable bikes should just come with helmets imo.
@ChrisLundkvist I think the ebike discourse is intended for medium-big cities, not the US as a whole!
(And public transit in those places is very inadequate. Even in Paris, where transit is much better than the US, I found ebiking a more pleasant experience than the subway)
@ChrisLundkvist Yeah, I think the public discourse in general is still in the frame where pollution is the only problem, but actually congestion is at least as big a deal and is really harmful in all kinds of ways. And e-cars alone do nothing about it. 🙁
@sharkiwhite @ChrisLundkvist Try using an uber/lime bike next time you are in a city that has them. They're actually quite convenient imo!
(Though exorbitantly priced; imo local govs should just run an at-cost alternative that works the same way [so pick up and drop off anywhere, not specialized stations])
@thefrozenfire @ChrisLundkvist Agree, this sucks and is unnecessary.
