@evanewashington But I would probably not have accepted it if not-very-friendly people had bludgeoned me with "YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT THIS NOW"

@evanewashington I have come around to accepting the repugnant conclusion (the argument intuitive to me is to assume *I* am one of the very many barely-positive-utility people: would I rather listen to Muzak and eat potatoes all day or with 99.9% probability never be born? For me, the former)...

@evanewashington Just acknowledging that the current frame has really unintuitive consequences without providing alternatives can be the first step in a (collective) chain of thought that eventually leads to someone creating the alternative.

RT: Exactly 6 months have now passed since this Russian soldier forced his way into Ukraine at a border post in the first official act of aggression by the Russian Army against Ukraine in this war.
There is no end to the war on the horizon. The West must remain determined to aid 🇺🇦! https://t.co/a0eYssaTJy

@GarrisonLovely > It’d be hard to find someone more antithetical to the entirety of the EA project than Donald Trump
In fairness I'd say Vladimir Putin. Basically every moral critique made of the US for "risking nuclear escalation" applies 100x more to Putin for starting the invasion itself.

@mnolangray "Ideas are a dime a dozen, execution is everything" may well be the single piece of "unquestioned common wisdom" I disagree with the most. It's just so not true.

Picked the wrong answer with more than a 2:1 ratio. Sorry guys, yall are ngmi. https://t.co/xbKnhYefqE

RT: @thefaketomato @palladiummag "X sounds great, mandatory X sounds horrifying" for many values of X.
It's almost like the whole "freedom" meme has a really important purpose to it!

@Max_Stirn @palladiummag Many kinds of technologies benefit rich people less than poor people. Democratized access to info, entertainment and other things made possible by the internet, for example.

@palladiummag In ultra-immersive fancy metaverse VR land, the guy living in a 2x2x4 meter pod and the guy in a mansion have something close to equality. Certainly not equality of power, but at least equality of comfort. In the away-from-keyboard world, there is no such thing.

@palladiummag This is one of those ideas that sounds appealing to a certain kind of person (it's also at the end of Ready Player One), but I suspect that in practice it will harm rich people much less than poor people and generally make things worse in all kinds of ways.

@ne0liberal Less a dunk and more a balanced review with fascinating pointers on both sides. Needs to be put into that japanese anime courtroom video format though.

@pourteaux Ok now I can't tell if you are making fun of him or if you are genuinely supporting the idea that clothing that does not require dry cleaning should count as "higher quality" than clothing that does.
(I support both causes)

Maybe my general politics here needs a distinct name, since everything starts aging (and by my model, acquiring anti-Lindy corruption and moral decay) the minute it is born. Something like "newism" or "birth innocenceism"
Only newborn things can be maximally innocent.

@TheSymmetrical @hosseeb @dragonfly_xyz I think my take is a bit different; don't pick one thing, also don't try to "round out" and pick everything, rather pick a few things and become good at the intersection of them.
