@Marco_Piani i.e. Just because you try to prevent spread, and do in fact have LESS spread, doesn't mean it won't happen in practice.

@Marco_Piani Also, NSW had a major outbreak in 2021 if you wanted to continue testing (eg. boosters)

@Marco_Piani In mid 2020, the outbreak in Victoria reached similar population case rates as the US where (among other places) vaccines were being tested.

@Marco\u Piani

@Marco_Piani If I were to interpret his statement in the most charitable way possible, he's suggesting that vaccines couldn't be tested in Australia because of its strategy. But even this is wrong. Vaccine tests in Australia would have worked fine.

@Marco_Piani How did the Australian covid strategy adversely impact neighbors in any way. If anything it helped neighbors by not spreading covid to them.
He's full of shit.

@CarolEzell7 @alexmeshkin The list of risk factors is enormous. Including being overweight or obese which by itself is most of the population.
For those with severe risk factors, you're correct. And it probably does do the most good there too.

@juli_bg_bs @macroliter The psycho is rude but not wrong. Vaccines aren't preventing cases to a great degree and the reason @macroliter 's house is covid free is not vaccines. It's either luck or other precautions.

@CarolEzell7 @alexmeshkin If you have another visit sure, but that's not a comprehensive solution. Most people don't, some don't have doctors at all. Good to do if you can though.

@CarolEzell7 @alexmeshkin The idea that a horribly overburdened health system which doesn't even serve everybody is going to have everyone doing a visit (ever if virtual) "just in case" is not remotely practical.

@baselsalam @Spauldi55428511 @robinhanson It's not the gains themselves, it is that many asset rich people who don't have high taxable incomes won't be included at all. That's why it overrepresent operating businesses like car dealers and underrepresented investors.

@FinchTH But still completely deluded as to what to do about it.
https://twitter.com/chrislhaye...

But even if you reversed the courts, and passed this stuff, I'm pretty skeptical of what compliance would be. Like I said on air yesterday: the low hanging fruit seem to be
1) Massively increasing our booster rates
2) Massively expanding access to and use of Paxlovid
