@happyhexer @BarstoolBT @linseymarr @LaurenPelley Do you actually wash your hands every time you touch an item in your home that was potentially contaminated weeks earlier? It seems easier to me to take precautions when items come in (and still wash hands too, but not absurdly frequently)

@happyhexer @BarstoolBT @linseymarr @LaurenPelley Look at the X axis. Little further degradation even after 7 days.

@RadCentrism @wastelndwalker @graemeblake The thing is, it isn't really exponential, since its discrete. Exponential is a useful model for a "large" population.
This is why even with R>1, many outbreaks can still remain small and burn out.

@RadCentrism@wastelndwalker@graemeblake

@Noahpinion Maybe models are fine and just garbage in garbage out. Both possible.

@janko_js @ajruddy71 @lisa_iannattone Should have been specified then. I wasn't the one who pointed out that if you eat all the jelly beans in that model you are certain to die. It's a reasonable inference.

@janko_js@ajruddy71@lisa_iannattone当时应该被指定。

@MichaelAArouet @FT Flu it is a lot less contagious. 10x more likely to get infected plus same mortality if infected = 10x higher mortality.

@MichaelAArouet@FT Flu

@blueskydream80 @jselanikio @mkarolian @EricTopol @OurWorldInData Heh, just enlarge or shrink the X axis to say whatever you want. Not focusing on you here, both equally arbitrary.

@janko_js @ajruddy71 @lisa_iannattone Yeah okay, it's still bad though, because it implies that if you eat all the beans you will certainly die, which is false. Of course, this depends on the size of the jar, which was not stated. But with a small jar, say 20 beans, it is a very bad model.

@janko_js @ajruddy71 @lisa_iannattone It's not clear because one poison bean per jar suggests you get infected once. That's not the case.

@chontang @CasualTrader6 @banhmifeedme @biancoresearch The WSJ piece goes into more detail. LME didn't believe he could pay his margin (at least not timely), and the resulting losses could have bankrupted market participants. That is why they broke the trades. Allegedly.

@chontang @CasualTrader6 @banhmifeedme @biancoresearch Correction: That was alleged in the thread. Maybe accurate, maybe not.

6/8
When he was given his “reprieve” the mkt had a “off-sides” player that could be squeezed. So, prices rocketed 250% to $100k.
A that point he could not pay the margin. Not to worry, the LME halted trading and canceled trades back down to $50k.

https://twitter.com/biancorese...

6/8

@chontang @CasualTrader6 @banhmifeedme @biancoresearch And no, you don't just need to live up to deliverables, you also need to live up to timely variation margin. These are path-dependent markets.

@chontang @CasualTrader6 @banhmifeedme @biancoresearch You can do that, but you still have to post collateral, not just "gee I have this kinda-similar thing over here, don't worry about it". The longs need to get paid, they may well be short something else.
