@mara_fiorentina @RadioFreeTom @JamesRaxz It's hard do separate cause and effect. When people expect to be eating more, they'll reject restaurants that serve portions that are "too small". It is possible that less dense walkable cities in the US plays a role, Probably not whole story since obesity on the rise globally.

@RadioFreeTom As things stand today, both are major public health concerns. One is not the "real" epidemic, and the other not. That's a terrible take.

@RadioFreeTom Obesity kills about 300k per year in the US. If covid ever gets below that in some year, it'll be the first year it happens, and post-acute covid deaths aren't being attributed to covid either (but should be).

@izacmann @mehdirhasan Agree that change should be made but if it is, it will become clear that vaccination as a program has failed due to low uptake (part of the reason the change isn't being made).
People aren't willing to show up for arbitrarily many frequent shots. It isn't realistic.

@kathyf @yellowmgtiger @wwkdeux @RadioFreeTom The 20% comes from a CDC study which considers latent conditions, leading to increased risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc. People with this increased risk don't necessarily have current symptoms they would report as "long covid".

@PsionicPsittacc @mausraster @kasnesudfanvds @mildanalyst @CovidDataReport Well, daily cases would increase with steady exponential growth. So the point of erratic growth still potentially exploding is valid.

@PsionicPsittacc@mausraster@kasnesudfanvds@mildanalyst@CovidDataReport

@kasnesudfanvds @mildanalyst @CovidDataReport The last day there is missing data. The rest since May 21 or so is close to a straight line i.e. exponential growth. The rate of growth did slow from the pre-May 21 period, which was likely when the bulk of cases shifted from finding old ones to spreading to new ones.

@_Kodos_ @humftydrumpfty @DrTomFrieden Try to understand. 19%.
A simple way to think about that to help you comprehend is that it "breaches your mask" 81% of the time and does not breach your mask 19% of the time. That's meaningful but not 100%.

@DerpasaurusWrex @MishGEA 2.5% copper. It's probably not worth it to separate (it already costs more than 1c to manufacture a penny).
The other coins contain much more copper, even though they don't look like it. Again, not clear separation costs would make this worthwhile as a "copper stockpile".

@robinhanson @jrfuisz @Humble_Analysis @FatEmperor It's also not likely that vaccination has NO effect on transmission and case rates. The effect is muted and easily hidden by other variables, but it's probably still there to an extent.

@adam3us @brian_trollz "Use spreadsheet from issuer" is dumb, I think we agree. Liquidity (market) is essential.
But even with a market, securities still critically reliant on issuer is my point.

@adam3us @brian_trollz The buybacks are still important, and investors are relying on them. They serve almost the same economic purpose as dividends, which would be paid directly by the issuer. Without either, the value would be lower or nonexistent.
