@TheSunShine_ @FrontiersIn @FrontClinDiab Families are only genetic and don't have lifestyle traits?
To try to pin this down you might look at twins raised together or separately. But it's hard to do.

@Sunshine\uu@frontiresin@FrontClinDiab

@MoniRuna7 @PadresSuns @sdbaral Someone who didn't have to take a bus to work serving tables in a restaurant, selling jewelry in shop, etc. and was instead paid to stay home was indeed protected. You may not consider that worth the costs but it is absolutely protective.

@canntrader @sdbaral @ezralevant And if the latter don't isolate, then they increase crowding in the stores and businesses being shared by those lower middle class/working class people. More crowding = EVEN MORE exposure.
You have to separate pre-existing risk due to job function. Lockdowns didn't cause that.

@bobepidemiology @longfacehorse @sdbaral What's "workplace closure"?
Just about every non-essential business is a workplace? Essential by definition means it can't be closed, the rest can.

@epilady @JeromeAdamsMD @sdbaral In practice it was hard enough to send out funds almost indiscriminately. It it plausibly possible to target better and do so more efficiently, but that won't happen without preparation (which as far as I can tell, no one is doing nor planning to do).

@LaneyCowanLC @_Eric_Reinhart @Random__Kids @sdbaral Transit workers are specifically mentioned and there is no question whatsoever that transit usage declined dramatically with non-essential workers not needing to use it to go to work. The lower occupancy almost certainly reduced exposure to transit workers relative to no closures

@SamirMadi01 @PeterAttiaMD Is there some reverse causality where risk of severe falls increase in those with declining health? It may be it is the underlying decline that leads to high mortality, and the fall is more of an indicator.

In other words, they have training and expertise relevant to the problem. Maybe those are the people you should listen to, not politicians and influencers.

@jolly1766 @jimhubbell6177 @RadioFreeTom Yeah half a year or less, half more than a year. It's been a little over a year. So the idea of still masking now is basically in the middle, nothing crazy at all, even in the absence of new information about vaccine-evading variants.

@jonsmack220 @RadioFreeTom I don't know where you are getting those percentages but this study says that obesity kills about 300k in the US per year, while covid has never been below that (and 2022 won't be).

@RadioFreeTom Obesity kills about 300k per year in the US. If covid ever gets below that in some year, it'll be the first year it happens, and post-acute covid deaths aren't being attributed to covid either (but should be).

@APazyryk @LoboGerda @RadioFreeTom @mehdirhasan It may be that severe cases demonstrate the post-acute cognitive changes in a more obvious way but less severe cases still have subtle changes. This is of course entirely speculative.

@jolly1766 @jimhubbell6177 @RadioFreeTom That's revisionist. At the time it wasn't even known there would be effective vaccines (but expected). Once there were vaccines, it wasn't known there would be a variant in a year that would continue to spread and infect and kill vaccinated people. Situation has always been fluid
