@robinhanson Bad features don't necessarily imply market failure, they could just imply the boring old phenomenon of people making a v1 of something based on a bunch of assumptions some of which turn out faulty, and later eventually themselves building a v2 that fixes many of those problems.

@LayahHeilpern @Kb_2481 USA is not "in dire straits" imo. It has the 8th highest GDP per capita in the world. It has other significant problems, but those aren't going to be made worse by doing any of the things I would advocate (also, other countries have their own skeletons in the closet)
