@mllichti @daniel_eth @Neoavatara They're also among the most crowded public spaces. It's rare that you're within half an arms length of other people for hours in public. Crowded clubs/bars, theaters, planes, that's about it.
"Travel" includes far more than just time spent in the air on an airplane too.

@ryan_landay That might be Biden's best chance to win. His base isn' happy with Joe but REALLY hates Trump. Lesser known Republican candidates, even if just as bad or worse on other metrics from Joe voters' perspective, might not motivate turnout.

@ryan_landay Problem is, he's driven apathy and even anger in his base by shifting policy so far away from what he promise. Can dems scare their base into vote against opponents? Maybe, or maybe it just encourages more disgust with whole process and non-participation.

@ryan_landay As for margin, that may not be quite so true in US politics at this point. There is so much polarization that the marginal voters in the middle are pretty hollowed out. May be even more so in mid term election. Enthusiasm/turnout has gone way up in importance.

@ryan_landay Reelection is a long way off, as you say. He may not even run. But 2022 congressional election is only 7 months away.

@ryan_landay In terms of "approval", which likely correlates with voting but not 1:1, his biggest loss of support, by far, is in his younger more left-leaning voting base, which is much more in favor of stronger covid policies than public overall. They mostly won't vote R but might stay home.

@ryan_landay I guess it's pretty hard to tell why people vote. I don't think most people really go through a careful decision matrix. Covid isn't ranked as the highest issues, but that doesn't mean defending a generally popular policy would be big negative. Maybe small neg or small pos.

@ryan_landay我想很难说人们为什么投票。

@drensber @ann_mcnitt @ignorantprophet @ayshakhoury @CIDRAP The entire chart is based on pre-delta studies. Real numbers across the board are likely significantly lower now, like 1/2 to 1/3.

@ryan_landay The people most opposed (by a wide margin, like 50 points or such) are for the most part core Republicans and Trump voters never going to support Biden or any of the candidates he supports.

@ryan_landay It's not terrible politics. It might be slightly negative in some swing districts. The "Americans are done with covid/want to get rid of masks/etc." meme is a bit overplayed for a variety of reasons.

@thesecondellen @denise_dewald "consider what he has achieved in one year in spite of ..."
He's accomplished NOTHING that his voting base wanted. The historic loss of support is not surprising at all.

@thesecondellen @denise_dewald Buck stops with Joe. He should have tried harder or played harder ball or made deals to give M+S more of what they wanted, etc. He didn't i.e. he failed to delivery on any damn thing of interest to his voting base. And some of it can be done with executive action too.
