@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter Read the links. There is a lot documented besides the obviously frivolous take on subway tiles. Here's another one, also with references.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter It's not a flu for one thing. Flu pandemics seem to have a few waves and mostly disappear (perhaps resurfacing only decades later) due to antigenic drift or immunity or being outcompeted by other flus or who knows what. So far this hasn't done that. Maybe it will.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter Lots of things happened in the past to reduce risk of persistent infectious diseases. Quarantines (individual and mass), shunning and marginalizing of infected, etc. You obviously don't expect exact same adaptations in a different time with different economies and technologies.

@mymysharona43 @FrankAr55210849 @nytimes Every large business or set of businesses owned by an individual, whether criminal or not, has very complex tax returns. I'm not willing to take the leap to claim every business is substantially criminal. Business is just far more financially complex than getting a salary.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter Past societal experiences are certainly relevant. Do you think people in the past weren't resistant to change? That is human nature and timeless. But change they did, and so we may as well. Some already. Norm of nearly 100% in-person office work likely gone forever.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter I could certainly come up with a list (e.g. ventilation standards, masks in essential services, not working while sick, testing used in sensible and effective ways, continued well-funded biomedical research, etc, etc.) but that's not the point here.

@macroliter "A rigorous definition" is fine, but there are multiple plausible choices. Agree 1/3 with noticeable PASC seems quite unlikely given lived experience.

@mymysharona43 @FrankAr55210849 @nytimes Probably had as much to do with his tax return as that blank binder his press secretary held up as his health care plan. Still, I'm quite certain his tax returns are very large and complex.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter That depends entirely on the type of work and workplace of course, and many vulnerable people are retired or disabled, but in both cases still often need to use transit and other essential services. Generalizations are not really helpful.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter Every current health, safety, and risk reducing regulation altered the way people used to live. Drunk driving used to be common and socially accepted, even expected, now it isn't. Likewise unsafe sex pre-HIV and so forth. Resistance to change is natural, but futile.

@macroliter @todh0564 @jburnmurdoch There is potentially a huge gap between long covid people might care about that is annoying and QoL-reducing, and "substantially limits one's daily activities".
I don't know if it is anything like 1/3 or 1/2 though, may not be.

@Macrolel@todh0564@jburnmurdoch

@FrankAr55210849 @nytimes I don't know if what Trump claims is true (often isn't) but tax returns and audits of many interconnected business entities he owns are certain to be a lot more complex (thousands of pages at least) than a public servant getting a salary.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter Believe what you like, but your thought process is clearly distorted by the framing of "restrictions". Health, safety, and risk-reducing norms, practices and regulations are pervasive. "Restrictions" is a concept out of emergency response, not the long view.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter Which, as I said, doesn't apply to vulnerable people who can and often do avoid those other places. "Home" is not relevant despite high numbers, but often cited as a form of misinformation, because transmission has to take place between homes, always one of the other places.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter There are numerous known transmission events planes and busses, fewer on trains I think. Lots of places simply don't trace well enough to know. Data also muddied by times and places where community transmission was low or vaccines effective against transmission.

@antizeroalt @MikeBromley15 @thumbhatguy @NKinNewEng @macroliter Some, depending on the time window. Lower IFR but more transmissible isn't great. 2022 is not a great year so far. Past few months, yes, likely diminished, though long covid is poorly understood.
