@SpencrGreenberg We should be more worried than we are today that "ok boomer" is ageist and is making boomers feel unwelcome.

@kevinsekniqi @Corpetty @el33th4xor @CollinCusce Because the level of economic security is much higher when attackers can lose not just potential gains but also their principal.
@accretionist @Suitpossum @3rdPartyLife I do think that it was true in 2014 that "the more moderate libertarians criticize corporations too, the more aggressive ones focus entirely on gov", but in 2022 as far as I can tell that's not true anymore.
@accretionist @Suitpossum @3rdPartyLife I don't even just mean the level-headed Canadian libertarians. I mean.... Bitcoiners. Including the aggressive and not very sane ones. Lots of anti-corporate sentiment, especially when we're talking about the banking system.
@accretionist @Suitpossum @3rdPartyLife That's what I mean! The libertarians I listen to attack corps all the time. Occasionally they even have to hear *from the outside* the point that sometimes bad stuff the banks do is actually a result of them having to comply with government regulations.
@Suitpossum @3rdPartyLife Ok I think the libertarians you listen to are different from the libertarians I listen to.
@Suitpossum @3rdPartyLife How is the concern in any way selective? I've heard of lots of criticism of the existing commercial banking system on privacy issues.
@dirac_sol But then you're minting coins without corresponding liabilities, and eventually your stablecoin turns into terra.
@gatnash Do you happen to know of a good introduction to islamic economics?
@NathanpmYoung Opinions on ethical values.
"Valuing the welfare of citizens of your own country 100x higher than people on the other side of the world is wrong and bad" doesn't really come with predictions.
@pourteaux People do have a natural reason to invest at least some locally: if you're _just_ a renter, then you're negatively exposed to your city's economic well-being (through rent prices, and proxies to other people's rent eg. prices in restaurants), so you want to compensate for that
@pourteaux This is a big part of why I support some kind of city coin (or for now just get a city-specific REIT)
You get wealth building, economic alignment with the place you live, but low hassle and more flexibility.

@tszzl I do think that the morale effect of realizing that Elon could take over twitter if he wanted to still carries over somewhat even if it never happens. In which case I guess this prediction may turn out very correct, because the other effects equal zero 🤣
https://twitter.com/VitalikBut...
The largest consequence of Elon taking over Twitter may well be not any specific policy decision he makes, but rather the morale effect of his supporters feeling emboldened and his detractors feeling like they are arguing on enemy territory. This is happening already.
https://twitter.com/VitalikBut...
Go through this list (it's from https://slatestarcodex.com/201...), and keep track of how many items elicit a positive emotional gut response in you, and how many elicit a negative one (if truly neutral, count as 0.5 for both).
How many negative responses did you get? (poll in next tweet) https://t.co/FVYoJF3u8k

@inudreamu Nah, WW3 may kill 1-2b (mostly from food supply chain disruption) if it's really bad, it won't kill off humanity. A bad AI could truly kill off humanity for good.
Unfriendly-AI risk continues to be probably the biggest thing that could seriously derail humanity's ascent to the stars over the next 1-2 centuries. Highly recommend more eyes on this problem. https://twitter.com/MIRIBerkel...
