@GidMK @Marco_Piani @zorinaq @elonmusk I mean, you keep bringing up the SPECIFIC case of targeted harassment, but then propose a remedy that (unlike e.g. restraining orders) isn't in any way limited to harassment, and has CLEAR harms that @zorinaq alluded to. There must be better solutions.

@GidMK @Marco_Piani @zorinaq @elonmusk If an individual is engaging with an audience of 10k+, they're not acting in the role of an individual. Quiet dinner with a few friends or mowing the lawn at home, sure.

@GidMK @Marco_Piani @zorinaq @elonmusk You can't prevent people from protesting or counterprotesting against you as a public figure in a public square in most free societies.
Legal recourse requires process and adjudication, not unilaterally pushing a button.

@GidMK@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@elonmusk

@GidMK @Marco_Piani @zorinaq @elonmusk You can walk away, but by doing so you essentially exit the public square. Restraining order is via a legal process where you demonstrate the harassment to a neutral party, not unilaterally by pushing a button.

@GidMK@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@elonmusk

@GidMK @Marco_Piani @zorinaq @elonmusk (Particularly if a public figure and the so-called "harassment" may actually BE legitimate protest.)
Twitter is designed and used by people to have large audiences, essentially making themselves public figures. It isn't Facebook (ex. groups) where it's only your friends.

@GidMK@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@elonmusk(特别是如果公众人物和所谓的“骚扰”实际上可能是合法抗议的话)
这不是Facebook(前群组),那里只有你的朋友。

@GidMK @Marco_Piani @zorinaq @elonmusk That's such a narrow subset of reasons people block, seems better addressed through an abuse process, as is the case offline. You don't blanket get to exclude people from your presence without a significant legal process.

@GidMK@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@elonmusk

@GidMK @Marco_Piani @zorinaq @elonmusk And further, blocking doesn't stop someone from threatening you. They can continue to make threats that don't happen to be replies.

@GidMK@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@elonmusk,

@GidMK @Marco_Piani @zorinaq @elonmusk Threatening is where the line gets crossed whether online or not. But blocking is a very different instrument, and I'd guess that 99%+ of blocks are not credible threats, probably not even threats at all.

@GidMK@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@elonmusk

@Marco_Piani @zorinaq @GidMK @elonmusk Insult yes. Lie about you, might be defamation.
I mean what can you do about insults? You can take it or leave, right?

@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@GidMK@elonmusk

@Marco_Piani @zorinaq @GidMK @elonmusk I don't think you have any right to a safe zone (from insults) in a public square.

@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@GidMK@elonmusk

@Marco_Piani @zorinaq @GidMK @elonmusk Setting aside illegality fo graffiti aspect, I don't think you have standing to complain. Someone could stand behind you or next to you with insulting signs for example. That's the nature of a pubic square.

@Marco_Piani@zorinaq@GidMK@elonmusk

@Marco_Piani @zorinaq @GidMK @elonmusk Supposedly it's a public square. If it were a house, there would be no issue of free speech at all.

@myrabatchelder @PublicHealth Covid, it's response, and it's aftermath have undone 50 years of health improvements, at least. I guess that leaves the first 100 years of progress to self-congratulate over.
