@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover There are a lot of them, and then way more borderline A/B- and B-listers not quiet at 9 figures but still easily 7-8 figures.
Ballooning inequality is a real thing.

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover Like seasoned A list celebrities tend now to be in the 9 figure club. They're 'rich' and can stay that way if not stupid even if they never get another movie role or release another album. Lots of high income working people are not.

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover High costs mostly. You're screwed if you want to maintain lifestyle but change carriers (to lower pay) or even face a difficult layoff.
I say 'rich' is someone whose lifestyle is more assured by their assets than it is tied to a particular job, but sure the term is ambiguous.

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover It's golden handcuffs in a way. High income doesn't necessarily mean "rich" and a million or two doesn't mean being free of the high income job (all all of its associated bullshit and stress) if you want to maintain lifestyle.

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover Interesting thought experiment perhaps is to tinker with the 50%. Would go for it if the $50m was 70%? 80%? 90%? Where are these numbers and why?

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover

@TRyanGregory South Korea and Japan look to be doing at least as well as most of the others just in terms of current mortality, although it remains to be seen how the current waves and lagging death curves will play out. Japan appears to have peaked, maybe SK too.

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover Many have serious burnout with their high income careers and are really looking for a way out without taking a big hit to lifestyle and viability of family financial goals. The $50m would be a very tempting exit and the $1m would not (but also tempting as a step toward).

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover I know many people who make $250k. They generally have net worths of a good fraction of a million already or in some cases over a million (especially if including home and retirement funds). All or most would think hard about which button to push. Some would push each, I think.

@AnyOnly2 @itsthelee @IDoTheThinking @pickover

@LongDesertTrain @ENirenberg @PeacockFlu @Asinickle1 @siamosolocani It would be interesting to see whether this intuition aligns with experience from places that are still doing rigorous contact tracing. Maybe that is just China.

@itsthelee @SteveMock1961 @IDoTheThinking @pickover I don't know without thinking about it a bit but that's along the lines of the alternative version I've been throwing out there.
I never meant to suggest that "life changing or not" was the only way to decide, it's just a consideration.

@itsthelee @SteveMock1961 @IDoTheThinking @pickover It doesn't have to be 50x more even with a very simple model. You're only 2x more likely to realize the $1 million rather than the $50m. If $50m were say 5x more life changing it might be reasonable choice for some.
Making it 20% for $50m might also make it more interesting.

@wsbgnl @nailatrahman I'm surprised this gap has gotten larger. I expected the largest share of the gap to be in early 2020 when e.g. people were told to stay home until turning blue, left to die, and taken to mass graves in NYC. But maybe those were eventually coded as covid deaths after all.
