@WesPegden @michaelmina_lab In this case I think it is just creating a public health pathway from test to treatment that doesn't go through general medical care, which is too busy to respond quickly and ill-suited to deal with it even if it wasn't.

@michaelmina_lab There needs to be a very streamlined pathway from test to treatment. So many people, even those with "some" access to care, are not well served, particularly when it comes to very rapid treatment (must be within days at most).

@PhanJokes @JudahWorldChamp @CDCDirector @CDCgov There is a clip from early last year where she basically says this but it's also a reasonable inference from the entire story arc.

@Phanachamps@JudahWorldChamp@cdcddirector@CDCgov

@JusDayDa @Bob_Wachter It's obviously not the (no longer working) protections that are keeping schools open, it is a policy willingness to have an explosion in the number of infections. And no, the place where kids spend most of their time in a congregate indoor setting isn't "the safest place".

@taaltree @Bob_Wachter I don't think he is suggesting we don't know any of the factors, just not all of them or how they interact.

@PhanJokes @JudahWorldChamp @CDCDirector It is that SHE hates wearing n95s.
There really isn't any more to it than that.

@LibertarianDad3 @wsbgnl Obviously there is a degree of imprecision as with everything but frameworks for this have already been developed and certainly don't include tanning salons or lazer tag studios. For example:

It happens I was one place during part of the stay at home period where the *only* thing open in the neighborhood was an ice cream shop.

@ShrikeTron @ErinBanco That would be different. The phrasing "a year" doesn't suggest continuously to me, but it isn't clear.

@gardengirl778 @SJScherban @AbraarKaran The question was advice to give in March. I agree, ramp up production in January, as Taiwan did. Different question though.

@gardengirl778 @SJScherban @AbraarKaran A few million were sent as aid, yes.
China imported BILLIONs of masks, essentially draining commercial stock throughout the world, and then banning exports (as you say, China produces them).
Bottom line, there weren't many high quality masks available to the US in March.
