@Nutmeg031992 @mdfuerstenberg @yaneerbaryam @nytimes Anyway, in terms of sanity check, my high level view is that many or most of the population in "high covid" countries (i.e. most of the west) has been infected. So if you do what is considered "normal behavior" or even mild "careful" repeatedly, likely outcome is infected.
@Nutmeg031992 @mdfuerstenberg @yaneerbaryam @nytimes Fits with experience in my social circle of people with Omicron tending to transmit readily if given the opportunity more so than previous variants. But that's anecdotal of course.
@Nutmeg031992 @mdfuerstenberg @yaneerbaryam @nytimes This paper (cited by WHO in their Omicron briefing) cites attack rates of 39% vs 26% for delta. I think 10% is out of date, seems plausible to have been right with Wuhan virus.

@Nutmeg031992 @mdfuerstenberg @yaneerbaryam @nytimes I don't recall repeated infection being particuarly relevant. Wachter hasn't been infected with covid at all, much less omicron, as far as we know. If you exclude people who have been w/O from the "future chain of infections" part, that's maybe 50%, within stated uncertainties.
@Nutmeg031992 @mdfuerstenberg @yaneerbaryam @nytimes The time period matters a lot. Prior to vaccines there were shutdowns or capacity restrictions when cases were high (often thresholds were much lower than current rates!). Prior to Omi, vax protected much better against infection. Risk level for infection close to maximum now.
@lyn_omalley @DailyJLee This is only useful pre-omicon so that's early to mid december. Since then you can extrapolate, but it isn't a low number

@mdfuerstenberg @yaneerbaryam @nytimes Pick a number, 30%, 60%, 80%, it doesn't really matter.
If you been eating or working in restaurants, etc. with prevalence a levels described in the thread, you got infected or were lucky. A good portion of the 70%, 40%, 20% who didn't were able to be more careful.
