@theLUCASTDS @alexmeshkin These charts are kind of made up but I think this one comes from the assumption of close contact (notice 15 minute time for "no masks"). If the infectious student is not too close and there is good ventilation, you should still be fine.
@Megan80irving @gregggonsalves I don't do this, but it is possible to keep the mask on and briefly pull it up or down between bites, even with an N95. Presumably you'd get less dose exposure that way even if >0. I know someone who does this. Does it work? No idea. Has so far. N=1
@Liberalism2021 @alexmeshkin I don't know what he says these days, but he's one of the authors of this from March 2022 and it includes N95s among layered measures (along with ventilation, rapid testing, etc.) to reduce high disease burden going forward.

@Liberalism2021 @alexmeshkin Some do, some don't, some are cautious. Funny thing is there are a lot of people in my circle who haven't gotten Omicron. Most of us go to restaurants but we sit outside. During really big surges or really bad weather (often the same time), we take a break from it. It's doable.
@CovidisBananas @Icomefromthela2 @greg_travis @TRyanGregory Cold describes a family of viruses, but the flu is influenza which is a different set of viruses. If it is influenza, it is the flu, from the others, it is a cold. "Cold symptoms" or "cold-like symptoms" can be from many things.
@CovidisBananas @Icomefromthela2 @greg_travis @TRyanGregory Cold
@tylerblack32 @mommyca20 @washingtonpost It's accurate but misleading. A headline writer who wanted to inform would write something like "Suicides Increase in 2021, but Reasons Complex" or "2021 Continues Long Trend of Suicide Increases". Huge number of people don't read past headlines.
@Liberalism2021 @alexmeshkin Have you actually tried a high quality, modern N95 like Aura or just the old cups? They're very breathable and comfortable, more so than most cloth masks. Granted many people find ANY mask to be uncomfortable but the good N95s aren't worse.
@Liberalism2021 @alexmeshkin You see a few people saying that. What you don't see is the large number who never say it.
40-50% is wrong (or perhaps outdated) w/careful study. For example, early Norway Omicron restaurant outbreak, 98% got symptoms.
@Liberalism2021 @alexmeshkin Not everyone in Korea wears KN95s (actually KF94s), even in that picture. There are at least two wearing cloth or surgical type masks, and they all look pretty well off/highly educated too. Probably lots of working people using cheaper masks.
