@kvongoeler @drShaneLandry @beansprouts_mom @SimonAJoosten1 @NjbBari3 @JIDJournal @brosseau_lisa At population level, given Aura high fit test pass rate, this may be a good conclusion, but it doesn't necessarily provide reliable protection to any one individual.

@TannisBell1 @a_longhurst I didn't initially believe that was real. But here we are.

@stargazing90 @itshullabalulu How do you we know you get colds this way?
I don't think we know you can't, so ultimately I agree with caution.

@kvongoeler @beansprouts_mom @SimonAJoosten1 @NjbBari3 @JIDJournal @drShaneLandry @brosseau_lisa Indeed, also
"both the poor fitting N95 and surgical masks were fit checked by the wearer at time of each application to ensure the best possible fit for that specific mask during each condition"

@wsbgnl "transition to a new lifestyle designed to prevent the spread of infections will be promoted"
CONTINUALLY ASCENDING lines showing level of preparedness and response capability also interesting vs. western yo-yo of reactive response.
https://twitter.com/GearoidRei... https://t.co/L62o3vlqBo

This is the English version. Perhaps obvious in hindsight but it accurately describes the following two years. Remember that when this came out, experts in the US and UK were still discussing exactly what percentage of people infected would deliver herd immunity https://twitter.com/gearoidrei...

https://twitter.com/GearoidRei... https://t.co/L62o3vlqBo

@beansprouts_mom @SimonAJoosten1 @NjbBari3 @JIDJournal @drShaneLandry @brosseau_lisa "Poor fitting N95" was defined in the paper as known to fail fit test. There is no measurement of N95s with unknown/unmeasured fit.

@KawasakiKR11 @BillHanage It was years later for the most part (apart from Wuhan+small EA waves in early 2020), but what you say is true.
Also, delay is its own merit
https://twitter.com/AeonCoin/s...

@Kathryn78917961 @APazyryk @BallouxFrancois @sdbaral That looks a lot like two years of successful supression to me. If you're elderly that might be 10-30% of your life expectancy. For everyone else, it looks like buying time to vaccinate and also maintaining low economic impact.

https://twitter.com/AeonCoin/s...

@Kathryn78917961@APazyryk@BallouxFrancois@sdbaral

@RadCentrism Not just CR (might imagine safety concern over self-constructed devices, whether or not valid).
Does. Not. Allow. ANY. Air Cleaners.

@radiusboosted @joeyfox85 @sameo416 I got this one because it doesn’t look like a HEPA since the school board doesn’t allow them. https://t.co/uHnv3u7yRl

@KawasakiKR11 @BillHanage NZ has retained some other NPIs too. As you say, not easy.

@KawasakiKR11 @BillHanage How does that differ from what is happening now in Shanghai? Deaths are at a meaningful rate. Seems "enough NPIs" in that environment is actually quite a lot, albeit not necessarily the right ones.

@forgedcoupon @BillHanage Population age/health, vaccination, and transmission are all major factors. Vaccination takes about 20-30 years off effective age.

@BillHanage How do you suggest that be accomplished? There are enormously deep-seated reasons why elderly in some cultures are not receptive.

@itshullabalulu 1. Individual assessment of risk and individual measures (e.g. one way masking) don't work very well. Transmission is a community-level process.
2. Some of the people you think are still taking precautions really aren't, at least not to the same degree.
3. Virus more contagious

@AGoldsmithEsq @alexmeshkin It may still be more sick people going for testing (even if many don't). That's a bit different from constrictions.

@AGoldsmithEsq@Alexmeskin

@alexmeshkin @AGoldsmithEsq I was referring to so many people out sick at the same time that things break down. Testing is secondary to that.

@FinchTH I think people would be okay with 99% protection against severe disease, both acute and chronic, but still experiencing symptoms. But reality is nowhere near that (and not clearly possible).

@AGoldsmithEsq @alexmeshkin Did that happen in January? Yes and no both. Like so many things about this pandemic, ambiguous enough that everyone gets to spin how they like.

@ryan_landay There is basically one high profile VC who hyped it and everyone else who thought they could be one of the cool kids (including the mayor, who in case anyone doesn't know is legally a "weak mayor" with no authority beyond being a cheerleader) joined in.
