@RidleyDM @Rose_Marie_Holt If you're ever in a situation of needing one, try the VFlex N95. They're so breathable, I honestly can't detect any breathing difference, little issue of temperature, doesn't block voices (does block lip visibility of course), many smells penetrate (they're not particles).

@RidleyDM @Rose_Marie_Holt It can be much worse than a cold even if vaccinated, and that's not even all that unusual. But I can still see a reasonable risk calculation to roll the dice and not pay a significant price every single day to reduce risk.

@RidleyDM@Rose\u Marie\u Holt

@jvmlost @alexmeshkin Yeah, very different from my understanding (no 1st hand experience). The biggest obstacle seems to be run-around getting seen for someone to order it. Pharmacy inventory used to be a challenge but not so much recently.

@RidleyDM @Rose_Marie_Holt People obviously have different tolerance of masks and tolerance of risks. But the excess focus on just masks is as if they are the one true solution is misplaced in any case which was sort of the point here.

@RidleyDM@Rose\u Marie\u Holt

@MarkFos32617741 @Noahpinion A good portion of NYC tax revenue does come from property taxes, though not specifically land value. The comments about high % of income tax from ultrahigh income don't really account for this, although tight budgets can't tolerate even small % shortfalls, so still important.

@Rose_Marie_Holt @RidleyDM @mrpunan @FinchTH @jvmlost @coolpix_jpg @cre8iverenewal @ToshiAkima The thread was mostly about filtration/clean air. If the air is clean enough, you practically don't need a mask (w/exceptions), as with outdoors

@Rose\u Marie\u Holt@RidleyDM@mrpunan@FinchTH@jvmlost@coolpix\u jpg@cre8iverenewal@ToshiAkima

@RidleyDM @Rose_Marie_Holt Well, there's a range of covid experiences. Some of them (even not hospitalized) are a lot worse than others. One of the most careful people I know has had covid twice (2nd was worse). Very much does not want to repeat. YMMV.

YMMV。

@_Kodos_ @humftydrumpfty @DrTomFrieden Also, while the don't account for a large number of cases, vulnerable people in Alameda when they need to work, shop, etc. are better protected due to others wearing masks, even not great ones (2 way making > 1 way). That's a major benefit not visible on a graph.

@_Kodos_ @humftydrumpfty @DrTomFrieden Funny, I thought I explained right up there how small counties with a lot of mixing when people shop, work, live, socialize, and visit entertainment in other counties can't ever have different trajectories. Alameda imports cases and exports mitigation. Regions almost always align

@jvmlost @mrpunan @FinchTH @Rose_Marie_Holt @RidleyDM @coolpix_jpg @cre8iverenewal @ToshiAkima Yes it was a generalization about outdoors. Indoors even with clean air under the same conditions (prolonged close contact) you would need masks to be protected as well, but not routine.

@jvmlost @alexmeshkin From what I've heard in the past few months, it has been readily available to anyone in the US who meets the criteria of <5 days + risk factors. There may be some disagreement on risk factors in individual cases but not for an 81 year old.

@alexmeshkin The point is not whether it is good science (does it even work at all on vaccinated people?) but whether prescribers have the option. By the wording of the EUA, they probably do.

@mrpunan @FinchTH @Rose_Marie_Holt @RidleyDM @jvmlost @coolpix_jpg @cre8iverenewal @ToshiAkima 1. You can't eat/drink with a mask.
2. Comfort level of a good mask vs no mask is less
3. Some people can't wear masks
4. No outlets, carrying a small plug-in was a (probably misleading) model of scaled filtration
5. Outdoors you don't need masks. Why not have clean air indoors?

@mrpunan@FinchTH@Rose\u Marie\u Holt@RidleyDM@jvmlost@coolpix\u jpg@cre8iverenewal@ToshiAkima 1。

@MarvinH2_G2 @demo_beta_v2 @EricTopol The only way to do that is something like a PAPR. If you just carry around an air cleaner, you're cleaning the air in your environment (good!), but not the air YOU breathe in. I discussed the later idea a bit here:
https://twitter.com/AeonCoin/s...

@FinchTH @Rose_Marie_Holt @RidleyDM @jvmlost @coolpix_jpg @cre8iverenewal While we're on the topic, it's a bit cyberpunk-ish, but I've been mildly contemplating some sort of wearable filter device.

@FinchTH@Rose\u Marie\u Holt@RidleyDM@jvmlost@coolpix\u jpg@cre8iverenewal
