@itsLIRAN I *use* IPFS to store my blog. It has serious UX issues (took ~1h for my last update to propagate). Sticking the blog on-chain would have been way easier.
For blogs, that's unfortunately too expensive, but for short text records the logic applies.

@itsLIRAN Yeah this is the ideology that I am saying sounds beautiful and sensible in theory, but is false in practice. In reality, blockchains have to shard to accommodate cheap txs anyway, and at that point there is other stuff that you "may as well" just stick on them and that's fine.

@TrustlessState @pujaohlhaver @Sandeepdesto @cdixon Ultimately I don't think this is an either-or; I think the optimal technical solution includes both a chain and off-chain data and ZKPs over both, and whether you call the result an SBT or a VC is just a matter of which tribe you want to virtue-signal to.

@Noahpinion I personally think it's cool that starbucks makes their decorations available for sale at all. Most other coworkingspaces don't do that.

@Kdenkss I actually really agree with this. Snowy dark winters are terrible for my mood, and I only started noticing it once I started spending winters in lower-latitude places.

@EgeErdil2 @StefanFSchubert Yeah, that's fair. Though if that's the world we're heading into it seems easier to affect it through either immigration or better global distribution of opportunity than by changing fertility rates.
Could be wrong on that though.

@EgeErdil2 @StefanFSchubert There are multiple groups of people who care about population for different reasons.
There's definitely race/culture/nationality types who want more of a specific type of person, but I think the people in this thread care more about gains from more humans existing in general.

@fbrusch @TrustlessState @cdixon Sure but you need to have some anchor thing that can be updated. Either it's a blockchain or it's some centralized DB. Blockchains have auditability and UI benefits, though they also have transaction fees.

@the_carlosdp @TrustlessState @cdixon @pujaohlhaver Agree. Blockchains as a lazy storage solution is one of those things that offends some people because "grrrr they should really be using IPFS", but in reality it's just a technology option that works well and can be worth the cost (especially post-sharding) for small text records

@TrustlessState @cdixon Agree there's dystopian potential too, though I feel like the worst of the dystopias already exist in either existing central attestations or existing transferable tokens. I think that's a lot of what @pujaohlhaver was trying to get at in the heaven vs hell section.

@TrustlessState @cdixon The main practical value of adding in a blockchain is being able to prove negatives: that you have no extant loans, that you did not get commit fraud, that your degree did not get revoked...

@TrustlessState@cdixon 。。
