@drbarnesbangor @crawlings13 @denniskeim @mattyglesias This study shows a 72% reduction in aerosol particles using regular off-the-shelf cloth masks (from the underwear company LOL). Some people use better masks too (though some use worse including bandanas and such). https://t.co/omh8vuGak0

@TahirKh92362300 @itosettiMD_MBA @CDCgov Also, ventilation on airplanes is often terrible when they're on the ground, and "travel" includes far more than just being on a plane (even air travel does: airports, shuttle busses, etc.). Other crowded settings common in travel are not as well ventilated as planes.

@TahirKh92362300 @itosettiMD_MBA @CDCgov The first sentence is not always true. It depends on a variety of factors including crowding and ventilation. Someone breathing right in your face from half an arms length away on an airplane is not addressed by the air being filtered minutes later.

@TahirKh92362300 @itosettiMD_MBA @CDCgov Going to a packed restaurant during a pandemic is not deemed safe by any expert.
Also, airplanes have good ventilation (yes better than most other places), but there are very few places, not including most restaurants, where you are AS packed as an airplane.

@ilhamabuljadaye @DrEricDing @MartinKulldorff @StabellBenn Well the first obvious thing is that the confidence interval for the mRNA is huge and crosses one. No conclusion is possible from this data probably due to low number of total deaths in the sample. CI=0.63-1.71

@thereal_truther @AndrewGutmann NYC, I think, had pretty low deaths after the first wave. Similar policies after that really. NYC wave peaks were mostly double digits, SF single digits, NYC as 10x population.

@AndrewGutmann @thereal_truther Asian flu and hong kong flus both estimated to have caused about 1 million deaths worldwide. The in-progress estimate from WHO for covid is said to be 15 million (and counting). Typical flu deaths per year globally are probably around 500k. None of this is even close.

Better argument between Jan 21 and now.
