@Max_Stirn @palladiummag Many kinds of technologies benefit rich people less than poor people. Democratized access to info, entertainment and other things made possible by the internet, for example.

@palladiummag In ultra-immersive fancy metaverse VR land, the guy living in a 2x2x4 meter pod and the guy in a mansion have something close to equality. Certainly not equality of power, but at least equality of comfort. In the away-from-keyboard world, there is no such thing.

@palladiummag This is one of those ideas that sounds appealing to a certain kind of person (it's also at the end of Ready Player One), but I suspect that in practice it will harm rich people much less than poor people and generally make things worse in all kinds of ways.

@ne0liberal Less a dunk and more a balanced review with fascinating pointers on both sides. Needs to be put into that japanese anime courtroom video format though.

@pourteaux Ok now I can't tell if you are making fun of him or if you are genuinely supporting the idea that clothing that does not require dry cleaning should count as "higher quality" than clothing that does.
(I support both causes)

Maybe my general politics here needs a distinct name, since everything starts aging (and by my model, acquiring anti-Lindy corruption and moral decay) the minute it is born. Something like "newism" or "birth innocenceism"
Only newborn things can be maximally innocent.

@nw3 @Noahpinion When I first saw the phrase "hors d'oeuvres" as a kid, I thought it meant "horse eggs". My brain still parses it that way...

@TheSymmetrical @hosseeb @dragonfly_xyz I think my take is a bit different; don't pick one thing, also don't try to "round out" and pick everything, rather pick a few things and become good at the intersection of them.

@TheSymmetrical @hosseeb @dragonfly_xyz

@Noahpinion Sea cockroaches rebranding themselves "shrimp" (and even "fruits of the sea" in French) was good too.

@Nowooski Started to appreciate how public narrative is a key deciding factor in many kinds of large-scale situations (I think before I would have said "incentives plus random noise")

@Nowooski The sane version of degrowth is "virtual consumption can substitute physical consumption and this is good for the environment and other reasons", and I'm sympathetic to this, but physical resource consumption per capita is *already* declining in developed countries. https://t.co/Te9WqRMtO2

https://t.co/Te9WqRMtO2

@Nowooski Actually, the phrase "anti-civilization" as a moral criticism is not something I would have said 10 years ago.
