@slowhandzen I think the pandemic reset romantic notions about going out to the movies in a way that nothing else could have done.

@slowhandzen I sorta stumbled on to this when I asked myself about 10 years ago "Why does nobody do A&R anymore?" It's not like the oppressive contracts required aren't signed... but why does nobody invest in it like they did?
Because nobody cares. Asking why nobody cared, rabbit hole.

@slowhandzen I will tell you 100% that the current corporate landscape of entertainment exists because of the abolishment of the studio system and everyone just trying to work around it. There is SO MUCH MONEY to be made in cinema IP that circling back regardless of law is unavoidable.

@slowhandzen I'm sort of in the opposite camp on that one.
What would E.T. have been able to explore if it was longer than 120 minutes?
Terminator didn't need 5 movies, 3 of them sucking. It needed 3 13 episode seasons.

@slowhandzen We are going to see a rebirth of the studio system. Mark my words.
Trying to get Dune made has caused a lot of ink on the subject in the last year.

@slowhandzen This is where TikTok wins. They have a satellite radio station and their own top 40 lists now. Creators can hold jam sessions just by someone duetting their video. Turn your frown upside down, sir. Someone did deliver on those promises.

@slowhandzen I think they definitely want out of distribution and to go all in on content creation. Everyone knows that's where the real money is.

@slowhandzen The price tag still says "industrial use only" but everything else says "everyone should have one."

@slowhandzen MS has always sucked at hardware, right or wrong. But goddamn the actual device is so well balanced on your head and so intuitive to use... just as soon as the market can accept it they are gonna pole vault into the top.

@slowhandzen The big thing tho is all of the stuff that goes around the show, itself. Promotions, merchandising, and the music.
Music is a loss leader for Sony and Universal, which is why Spotify pays shit and the content released is low brow trash.
They can make it back in synch rights.

@slowhandzen Netflix going the route of Blockbuster does have some delicious irony.

@slowhandzen Hahaha 100% consistent opinion between us on that one.
Google totally fucked themselves for entertainment content and has never and may never recover.

@slowhandzen All my homies hate Google and there's reasons why YouTube isn't Netflix and Netflix exists at all. Google wanted to end copyright at one point and .... folks disagreed.
Microsoft is a fucking mess at the moment but I think their time is a post-AR/VR world. Hololens is amazing

@slowhandzen I'm also a bit torn because I hate music publishers as a general rule for being useless eaters so seeing them fuck each other over for a buck is amusing at minimum.

@slowhandzen I have concerns about a Disney content monopoly due to their demonstrable behavior in the music industry, but I'm sorta on my own on that already. Their republication of songs as soundtracks cuts the original publisher out of the equation. All the work to get noticed... unpaid.

@slowhandzen And Disney+ will cut a deal w/ Prime or Apple - or perhaps both - to get that reach.

@slowhandzen That's an incredibly astute observation. The fracturing of new show discovery as a function of the rise of OTT and the death of cable has created a spot for content aggregators. The only two worth noting are Amazon and Apple, and Apple needs to breakout of its own ecosystem.

@slowhandzen I didn't realize Vivendi/NBC gave up that much control already but damn if they don't own less than 40% controlling interest now.
With the Peacock streaming app I don't see how Hulu survives at all beyond 2025.

@slowhandzen My take on it at the moment is that he was God... like actual God... in human form, but totally forgot he was God in the process... and it made him crazy.
